This program was designed to nurture and encourage the relationship between young children and the natural world with the hopes of inspiring the next generation of stewards. The Garden teacher leads children in caring for the garden spaces, facilitates inquiry-based discussion, bridges the disconnect that children have with their food, and encourages children to look through a sustainability lens.
At the JCC ELS, we practice and actively teach Tikkun Olam, which means repairing the world through loving acts of kindness. This year as part of our garden program and efforts to increase our sustainable efforts in the name of Tukkun Olam, we have begun collecting multilayer plastic for recycling through Ridwell. Each classroom has a Ridwell bag to collect multilayer plastic like snack wrappers and chip bags. Below you will see a list of items that are accepted.
Dana has been an educator for over 10 years. She has taught in a variety of pedagogical settings, including teaching at forest and nature preschools. Dana is passionate about helping children connect to nature and believes that every child has the right to a meaningful, wonder-filled and playful childhood. Outside of school, Dana tends to a community garden, enjoys hiking, playing with her cat Coyote and is actively involved in her community. She looks forward to working with the children and staff at the J.
